On Saturday, November 3, several donors gathered at Sebasticook Valley Health (SVH) for a beam signing event to “mark” an important milestone in the SVH Capital Campaign. Under a tent located adjacent to the quickly rising inpatient expansion wing, over fifty SVH employees and community leaders gathered to sign the last beam that will be installed by Cianbro Corporation later this season.
SVH President/CEO Victoria Alexander-Lane welcomed guests with Chairman of the Campaign Executive Committee, Malcolm “Mac” Cianchette. Stated Ms. Alexander-Lane, “I am proud to see the outpouring of support for our expansion thus far: those who have the least to give are giving the most they can, which speaks to the importance of our hospital and of this expansion.” To date, SVH employees, managers, and board members have pledged close to $457,000 during the quiet phase of the capital campaign.
Mr. Cianchette remarked: “Half a century ago, my father Carl Cianchette was one of the founders of SVH, and its first Board President. It is very exciting to see how much the hospital has grown since then and what is planned for the future. These improvements honor the vision of those who helped create this hospital.” He noted that many in the community have also given generously to the capital campaign thus far: CM Almy, Dean Homstead (owner of Bud’s Shop ‘n Save stores), Dan Gerry (owner of Newport Industrial Fabrication), and Affiliated Health Systems.
The expansion will provide new impatient rooms that are larger with private baths, enabling better care and privacy for patients and visitors. The $9.5 million project is slated for completion in 2013, and the campaign plans to garner $2 million in pledges.
